Wild geranium

Wild geraniums are also known as cranesbill. They prefer well-drained soil in open woodland with partial sunlight. The plant is not poisonous and can be used as a salad green. Herbalists use it to treat dysentery and diarrhea and as a blood coagulant. The flowers go progressively through male and female stages and need a certain kind of wasp to transfer pollen for fertilization. The lines on the inside of the petals are thought to be a guide for insects to show them where the pollen can be found.
