Whitby Breakwater
The town of Whitby in North Yorkshire has a long history since its founding in Saxon times. Captain James Cook was apprenticed here to a Whitby shipowner, and his exploration vessels were built here. The River Esk divides the town in two and creates an excellent natural harbour. On a foggy day you can just see the breakwater at the entrance to the harbour disappearing into the mist.
