Mark Twain called it "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific". Waimea Canyon is ten miles long, a mile wide, and over 3500 feet deep. The lines and colours in the rock come from layers created by many volcanic eruptions. The canyon is part of the Koke'e State Park. There are 45 miles of hiking trails through the canyon and nearby Alakai Swamp. This was taken in February, 2006. |
