| If you drive along the west shore of Oahu as far to the north as the road goes, you can park and hike to Kaena Point. There was once a road to the Point, but is has washed away and the area is now a State Park and Natural Area. The rocky beach where the road ends, near the Makua Military Reserve, is not on the usual list of tourist beaches, although it can be popular with surfers in the winter. The rocky shelves at the far north end of the beach, with the waves crashing over them, made a great foreground as the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. | |
