The Louise Weiss building houses the European Parliament, the directly elected parliamentary body of the European Union (EU). The Immeuble Louise Weiss in Strasbourg, France, is one of two meeting places in Europe for the Parliament. The other is in Belgium, necessitating an expensive move of elected officials and their staff twice a year. The Louise Weiss Building was built at a cost of 470 million euros and was inaugurated in 1999. It incorporates the hemicycle for plenary sessions, the largest of any European institution, plus additional meeting rooms and offices. The structure is one of the biggest and most visible buildings of Strasbourg.
