| Raffles in Singapore is one of the world's best known hotels. Originally a ten room bungalow opened in 1887, it grew over the years to its present 103 suites, several eating establishments, the famous Long Bar, and a new shopping arcade. No visit to Singapore is complete until you have wandered around what Somerset Maugham once described as the legendary symbol for "all the fables of the exotic east". From an upper gallery we looked down on the courtyard during one of Singapore's typical afternoon downpours in late December. | |
