Purple Trillium
Purple trilliums grow in rich soil in damp shady woods in eastern US and Canada. They have a number of common names, including red trillium, bethroot, ill-scented trillium, red wake-robin, red benjamin, daffy-downdilly, dishcloth, Indian balm, and truelove. Native Americans used trilliums to cure a variety of ailments. Herbalists have used the purple trillium to cure gangrene.
