Picked Hill, Vale of Pewsey
Some might think that the terraces on the side of Picked Hill in Wiltshire are livestock induced erosion. Historians tell us that in fact these are lynchets, evidence of medieval ploughing techniques. A single direction plough was used, working around the conical hill, and leaving us evidence of ancient agricultural practice. This is also known as ridge and furrow cultivation.
