Dragonflies are attractive insects with multifaceted eyes, an elongated body, and two pairs of strong, transparent wings. They eat mosquitoes, midges, and other small insects, and are valued as predators in controlling unwelcome insect populations. They are usually found near ponds, streams and wetlands because the larvae (nymphs) are aquatic. This is a male Neurothemis terminata terminata, common in Asia. The male is easily distinguished from the female by his dark red wings with red pterostigma, the female's wings are transparent.
