Minster Yard, York
York is the traditional county town of Yorkshire. It is the seat of the Archbishop of York, and home to two universities. Founded in AD 71 as Eboracum, it was the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior. Later it was the centre of the Viking kingdom of Jorvik. Today it is still an important centre of industry, education, and tourism. Many significant medieval buildings have survived, including the magnificent York Cathedral. Minster Yard is across the road from the cathedral entrance.
