During the Industrial Revolution the road between the silk mills of Macclesfield and the commercial centre of London was known as the Silk Road. Today all that remains is a muddy track across the desolate Peak District moorland, but the old stone milepost has survived to remind us of a once busy road. Walkers pass by on their way to the Cat and Fiddle Pub for a pint or two at the end of the day, and sheep graze as they have done for years. Brilliant sunshine on a day in early November brought out the subtle beauty of this rural landscape. |
