| The Sydney Opera House was built in 3 stages between 1959 and 1973. The controversial original design proved all but impossible to build, and various innovative solutions were required. Design work on the shells involved one of the earliest uses of computers in structural analysis. The 1.056 million tiles covering the shells are a mixture of glossy white and matte cream. In spite of being self cleaning, they need regular specialized cleaning and maintenance. | |||||||||||||||
