Gaur (Bos gaurus) calf

Indian Gaur calf looking concerned

Generally known as Indian Gaur, and incorrectly as Indian Bison, this is the largest species of wild cattle, larger than Cape Buffalo and Bison. The domesticated form of the Gaur is called Gayal or Mithun. Wild Gaur are generally shy of humans, but can become aggressive, especially when it is hot. One calf is usual, occasionally twins are born. Calves are weaned after seven to twelve months.
