Iguana
Iguana have become pests in many parts of Florida. They damage landscape plants, fruit trees and shrubs, and vegetables. Their burrows undermine sidewalks, seawalls, and foundations. They can bite, cause severe scratch wounds, or delivery a painful slap with their powerful tail. They are not native to Florida. Most were former pets or their descendents, illegally dumped in canals or swamps. Some arrived in cargo ships and escaped. They are particularly fond of impatiens and mango trees, and are dangerous when cornered. This magnificent male lives on a golf course on Sanibel Island.
