The Isle of Wight is traditionally a centre for British yachtsmen. The sailing club at Gurnard, just around the bay from Cowes, maintains these attractive green wooden sheds for storage of sails and other boating equipment. In the distance a boat with reefed sails tackles the changing wind on the Solent. Prevailing south westerly winds and strong tides provide challenging conditions for first class sailors. I saw these huts on a wet day in October, 2006, and returned the next day to take the photograph in the early morning sun. |
