Tightly furled bud of a Musk mallow (Hibiscus Moscheutos). Native to the Carolinas, these large flowered hardy perennial shrubs are also known as swamp-rose mallow, rose mallow, hardy hibiscus, and perennial hibiscus. They make a spectacular and continuously flowering display in hedging or borders where there is full sun to part shade, and moist soil.
