To help control excited horses, a chuckwagon driver is allowed to have an assistant to help him as he gets ready and lines up at the starting line. The mud on the driver's hat and jeans are testament to just how much dirt flies up from the hooves of four horses, while the presence of a safety vest reminds us that this is a dangerous sport.
