Dahlia

The dahlia is the national flower of Mexico. They are easy to grow, and make a brilliant and colourful addition to any garden. I found this gorgeous and unusual specimen in Butchart Gardens. Started in a worked-out quarry in 1904, and designated a National Historic Site of Canada on the occasion of its centenary, a trip to Butchart Gardens is a highlight of any visit to Victoria.
