Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis)

portrait of a cattle egret in mating plumage

A Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis), member of the heron family, showing the buff plumes typical of breeding plumage. Cattle Egrets are often migratory and they are a highly dispersive species, in some cases they are classified as an invasive species due to their numbers. Some cattle farmers find they are useful as a biocontrol for ticks, files and other parasites for herds.
