Usually the bank of the canal is hidden by reeds and grasses, or it has been extensively refurbished, but this view of the side of the Kennet and Avon Canal gives a very interesting picture of the construction. Large stones cap the top of the canalside, while courses of bricks are laid in vertical and horizontal rows. A shrub on the bank is reflected in the still water, and small weeds grow in the cracks between the stones. This photo was taken early one September morning beside the lock at Wootton Rivers. |
