The role of the rodeo clown is one of great danger and heroism. They wear funny clothes and perform silly antics to make the crowd laugh, but once the cowboy gets onto the bull they are all business. Their job is to distract the bull and lead him away from the cowboy once he has dismounted or been bucked off. Typically a rodeo clown (they are also known as barrelmen, or they prefer to be called bullfighters), will make only $100 to $225 per show, in return for putting their lives at risk every time a bull comes out of the chute. No insurance company will touch them. |
