| The roots of a birch tree can spread to a distance of at least twice the tree's height. They require a great deal of water. On a typical spring day, a large birch will extract enough water from the soil to fill ten bathtubs! Birches are very useful to mankind. Every part of them is used for food, construction materials, medicinal treatments, lubricants, and other applications. On a glorious day in October I loved the way the sun shone through the leaves and lit up the whole tree and the area around it. Taken at Kokanee Springs, British Columbia, in 2005. |
