Houses on the Seafront at Bexhill
In the late 1800's the 7th Earl De La Warr decided to transform a small rural village into an exclusive seaside resort. A seawall and parade, the exclusive Sackville Hotel, the Kursaal, a pavilion for entertainment and relaxation, and a bicycle track with a cycle chalet were all built and Bexhill became a popular destination for Victorians visiting the seaside. In 1902 the town became infamous for being the first to allow mixed bathing, men and women were allowed to swim in the sea from the same beach.
