A Feast of Dandelions Black bear eating dandelions

This black bear was enjoying a meal of dandelions by the roadside in Jasper National Park. Black bears are the most common species of bears in North America. They are omnivorous, eating grasses, herbs and fruits, and also carrion, insects, and occasionally small mammals. As with grizzlies and other large animals, habituation to humans is a problem. Bears enjoy visiting town garbage dumps, and they soon learn that campers have food. Many are killed on roads and highways.
